4/13 – Card Sorting

Over the years, a deck of cards has always been a favorite toy both in the classroom and with my own children. When our children were very young, placing the cards in different containers was always entertaining. Especially if there was a lid involved (Talenti containers work great!).

Materials:
Red and Black paper
Cards

Set-Up: Place the cards in the middle of the two pieces of paper. You can either explain the activity or watch and see what your child will discover on their own.

4/13 – Pre-Writing Lines with Cars

We love to play with cars at our house and this is a great way to practice pre-writing skills with them.

Materials:
Tape
Cars

This is much more fun with lots of car sounds!

Make lines with the tape, diagonal, “box” and straight (see picture). Provide cars nearby (or have your child go and find some). Drive!
How fast can you go? Can you stay on the lines?
The boys then asked if we could put the lines on the wall! So, we did with painters tape!
Have fun!

4/13 – Playdough Puzzle

This can be done with anything laying around the house. If you have a “junk drawer” this is a time to raid it!

Materials:

“junk”
Playdough
Rolling Pin

Roll out the Playdough and gently press the objects that you have chosen into the dough. Place the objects to the side. Have your child match the shapes in the dough with the objects to the side! Easy as that!

4/13 – Stacking Cups

For as long as I have been teaching children always have fun with plastic cups. There are just so many ways to play with them, stacking them, catching balls in them, bowling…the list goes on. For this provocation, we are going to stack them!

Materials:
Plastic Cups

Provide your child with plenty of space and cups to make their creation. Sit back, get a few minutes of work done on the computer and wait to see what they have created!!

4/13 – Making Shapes with Sticks

With all this beautiful weather we have been having all you need for this activity is chalk and some sticks, and I’m sure you know a person who is good at finding sticks.

Materials:
The Outdoors
Sticks
Chalk

Draw small shapes, triangles, square, pentagon, octagon… have a pile of sticks nearby. Have your child cover the shapes using the sticks. This activity is great for being outside and practicing fine motor skills.
