Toddler Program
Blue Leaf’s toddler program embraces the beautiful and often messy process of early childhood. We honor each child through respectful care, freedom of movement, and thoughtful support for their emotional and social development.
“The moment I decided to follow instead of lead, I discovered the joys of becoming part of a small child’s world.”
— Janet Gonzalez-Mena
Ages
1 – 3 years
Our toddler program is for children between the ages of 1 and 3 years old. We understand the importance of building strong lasting relationships and do our best to keep children together as they age up, graduate and move to our Preschool Program, which overlaps, going from 2.5 – 6 years old.
Toddler Program Daily Rhythm
Our day flows gently in response to the needs and interests of the children, allowing space for discovery, connection, and care. Inspired by the RIE® approach and Blue Leaf theory, we honor each child’s autonomy, competence, and unique rhythm—trusting them to lead the way through meaningful experiences and relationships.
Arrival & Welcoming
Children are warmly welcomed at 8:30am into the environment, either indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. We begin our day slowly and intentionally, offering time for connection, observation, and child-led exploration.
Morning Nourishment
When the children are ready for food, a healthy snack is offered. This shared moment is calm and unhurried, allowing each child to eat at their own pace.
Caregiving Moments
Diapering and bathroom routines are offered respectfully and responsively throughout the day, always with the child’s full participation and awareness.
Outdoor Exploration & Play
Children are free to move, investigate, and immerse themselves in nature. We observe and support their play, allowing them to take the lead in their learning.
Midday Meal
Lunch is offered midday. Mealtime is a social, respectful experience that invites conversation, community, and independence.
Rest & Restoration
After lunch, children are supported in finding rest in ways that suit their individual needs.
Afternoon Play & Nourishment
As children awaken, they are invited to re-engage in play—often returning outside. Snack is offered to those who are hungry as they transition back into activity.
We enrolled our 2-year-old at Blue Leaf early this year and couldn’t be happier with our experience. Best school in Boulder by far. The teachers are so lovely and welcoming, very communicative with us, and we have seen our daughter thrive under their guidance. We love the incredible food they provide, their beautiful space, and how we have seen our daughter cultivate a deep sense of curiosity and kindness.
