Infant Program
Inspired by RIE® principles and the Educaring® Approach, our infant program lovingly honors each child’s unique curiosity and provides high‑quality care that meets them right where they are in their developmental journey.
“I wish children could grow according to their natural pace: sleep when sleepy, wake up when rested, eat when hungry, cry when upset, play and explore without being unnecessarily interrupted; in other words, be allowed to grow and blossom as each was meant to.”
– Madga Gerber
Ages
0 – 2 years
Our infant program is for children 4 months – 24 months.
Children grow such wonderful attachments at this age to their caregivers and peers, that we work hard to ensure they all graduate to the toddler program together, including their caregivers who cycle annually between the infant and toddler programs for continuity of care.
Infant Program Daily Rhythm
Our rhythm ebbs and flows with the growth and development of the room. Inspired by RIE® principles and the Blue Leaf Theory, we observe and allow the children to shape the rhythm of their day within safe and reasonable direction.
Arrival & Gentle Beginnings
Infants are welcomed at 8:30 a.m. into a calm, intentionally prepared environment—indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Teachers greet each child with warmth and presence, creating space for connection and a soft start to the day.
Exploration Through Observation
Through careful observation, teachers shape the environment to support each infant’s natural curiosity and development. Materials are thoughtfully selected to encourage exploration, movement, and meaningful engagement.
Morning Nourishment
For infants ready for solids, a nourishing snack is offered in an unhurried, responsive setting. This shared time encourages self-awareness and emerging independence.
Responsive Care
Care routines such as diapering and handwashing are offered throughout the day with full attention and respect. Teachers approach these moments as opportunities for connection, communication, and trust-building.
Individual Rest Rhythms
Each infant is supported in resting according to their own sleep patterns. Teachers remain attuned to signs of tiredness and help ease transitions to rest with sensitivity.
Waking & Midday Transitions
As infants wake, they are invited to re-engage with play—often returning outdoors. Lunch is offered in a calm, connected atmosphere that honors each child’s pace and preferences.
Afternoon Play & Presence
The afternoon flows gently with time for movement, exploration, and continued care. A second snack is offered to those who are hungry, as the day winds down in a familiar, supportive rhythm. Those who desire more rest may be enjoying their second or third nap.
We’re so thankful that we found Blue Leaf! Our son has been so well taken care of. Their teachers are so caring and thoughtful and they’re clearly passionate about what they do. I can tell they’re always trying to keep up with the latest literature in child care. We particularly love the parent-child classes where we can come in and discuss challenges we’re facing with fellow parents and get guidance from staff. Can’t say enough good things about Blue Leaf!
